WEST GERMAN CENTER OF ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION. UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL ESSEN
Patient – Transplantation
The West German Center of organ transplantation comprises various doctors and scientists to get new insights and methods how to treat affected patients to medically highest level. Due to the high quality of care, surgery, intensive care and long-term follow-up, they offer one of the highest survival rates after transplantation in Germany. This achievement was possible thanks to an excellent interdisciplinary team. These experiences lead to the creation of the West German Center for Organ Transplantation (WCO). The center includes all clinics and institutes, which are involved in the care and treatment of transplanted patients. It has developed in recent decades as a leading European center – we are one of the few university hospitals that perform kidney, liver, pancreas, heart and lung transplants. The number of transplants per year is ca. 250.
